Alkali metal carbonates are more soluble in water than the corresponding alkali metal bicarbonates.

Solubility of s block metal salts (except of halides of Be) are governed by relative values of hydration energy and lattice energy. If hydration energy exceeds lattice energy considerably, salt becomes soluble.
